Flux 3 [klein]: 2 Credit Images and Edits, and How to Use It
Flux 3 [klein] is the compact, open weights version of FLUX 3 Image from Black Forest Labs. It costs 2 credits per image and per edit, the cheapest image model on our site. Here is when to use it and how.
What Flux 3 [klein] Is
FLUX 3 Image Klein is the compact version of FLUX 3 Image, released by Black Forest Labs in October 2026. Its weights are open, and it is small enough to run on consumer graphics cards. Here we call it Flux 3 [klein], and it is new in the model menu as of this update.
Small does not mean stripped down. It does the same three jobs as Flux 3: text to image, editing an image you upload, and combining several reference images into one result.
2 Credits to Create, 2 Credits to Edit
Every image costs 2 credits, and so does every edit. That makes it the cheapest image model we offer right now, roughly two cents per result. Images come out at about 2 megapixels.
The part I like most is that editing is not a premium. On several models in the lineup an edit costs more than a new image. Here both cost the same. For context:
- Flux 3 [klein]: 2 credits to create, 2 to edit
- Flux 2 [klein] 4B: 3 to create, 5 to edit
- Flux 2 [klein] 9B: 3 to create, 5 to edit
- Flux 3: 10 to create, 10 to edit
Fast, and Fine With Short Prompts
A plain text to image result usually comes back in a few seconds. Edits with reference images take longer, so give those a moment.
Before generating, Flux 3 [klein] rewrites a short prompt or a one line edit instruction into a full scene description. So "a fox in the snow" works. You still get more control by writing the details yourself, but you do not have to.
When to Use Flux 3 Instead
Flux 3 [klein] has no web grounding. That is a Flux 3 feature. If the picture has to be accurate to the real world, or you want the best detail you can get, pay the 10 credits for Flux 3. For everything else, start with klein.
How to Use It Here
You can reach it in three places.
- Studio, create: choose the create mode, pick Flux 3 [klein] from the model menu, write your prompt, choose an aspect ratio and generate.
- Studio, edit: switch to edit mode and upload your reference images. Refer to them by position in the prompt, "image 1", "image 2", so the model knows which is which.
- Agent: describe what you want and ask for the model by name, for example "use Flux 3 [klein] for this". The Agent shows a plan with the credit cost before anything is generated.
- Fire Images: one prompt across several models at once, up to 5 outputs per model, results grouped by model.
A Cheap Way to Find the Right Image
Honestly, I would start most new ideas here. Drafts are where credits disappear, because the first prompt is rarely the right one.
- Write the idea and run 5 variations of Flux 3 [klein] in Fire Images. That is 10 credits in total.
- Keep the composition that works and tighten the prompt around it.
- Finish the winner with Flux 3, Nano Banana 2.1 or GPT Image 2.5.
Failed generations are refunded automatically, so a bad run costs you time, not credits.
Run five Flux 3 [klein] drafts for 10 credits.
Open Fire ImagesPrompt Tips
- Describe the subject, the setting, the light and the framing. "Close up of an old fisherman mending a net, harbor at dawn, soft side light" beats "fisherman" by a mile.
- If the image needs text, put the exact words in quotes.
- For edits, say exactly what changes and what stays: "Make the jacket in image 1 red, keep the face, pose and background."
- With several references, name each one by position: "Put the bottle from image 2 on the table in image 1."
